Advances in eradication of malaria deaths in Africa

A recent communication from our LMI partners confirm that the war on malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa is being won, bit by bit.

  • Mortality rates have dropped more than 33% since the year 2000.
  • One half of all households now own at least one bed net–which is up from only 3% in 2000.
  • Ninety-six percent of people with bed nets use them!  This is very significant.
  • Diagnostic testing for suspected malaria cases have doubled in the past five years–this is from 26% to a 45% increase.
  • Two years ago statistics showed that a child in Africa died every 30 seconds from Malaria–now a child dies every 60 seconds.

PLEASE support the Lutheran Malaria Initiative so that these significant changes continue to improve.  EVERYONE can get involved in raising money through your congregations, groups, and schools.  All of us together can change history.

Let’s reach our goal to ERADICATE DEATHS FROM MALARIA IN AFRICA by 2015.
