Dr. Misghina Abraha and Dr. Ruth Goehle, two Lutheran physicians from St. Paul, MN will travel as a LIMM medical assessment team to Sudan March 20, 2010 at the request of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sudan and LCMS World Mission East African staff. The team will visit three medical facilities operated by the ELCS, St. Paul Christian Hospital in Khartoum, Malakal Health Clinic, and Yambio Health Clinic as well as the Teaching Hospital in Malakal.

Dr.Goehle has served in a number of African countries with a vast amount of experience in medical care delivery in developing countries, including Sudan.  Dr. Abraha comes from Eritrea and has returned there for a number of short-term medical mission trips. He completed his high school education while a refugee in Sudan before being resettled in the US.

Dr. Goehle will spend 10 days in Sudan before returning to South Africa and Zimbabwe with the Lutheran Malaria Initiative.  Dr. Abraha’s three-week visit will include extended consultation with the staff of the ELCS health clinics before returning to his position as a physician at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Dr. Goehle’s and Dr. Abraha’s evaluation and report will be a valuable tool for the ELCS and LCMS World Mission to make informed decisions as they plan the medical/health outreach of the church to the Sudanese community they serve. LIMM is thankful to be able to fund this assessment consultation.
