Carli Zygowicz, PhD., LIMM board member, spent two weeks in Kyrgyzstan as a volunteer helping Missionary Sue Pfeil, R.N. Dr. Zygowiz, a psychologist , led the Health Educators in a two hour class discussion on "Spousal Abuse, Causes and How to provide help."  The group discovered that in spite of cultural differences between Kyrgyzstan and America the problems and their causes are the same and result in emotional and physical abuse of women.  Dr. Zygowicz shared her experiences and expertise in counseling in abuse situations and suggested the establishment of ‘safe houses’ through congregations.
