Position Title: Member of LIMM Board of Directors
Length of Term: Three years (renewable for two terms for total of nine years)
Reports to: The entire Board of Directors
LIMM is governed by an independent Board of Directors. The Board of Directors will consist of a maximum of 12 members and an ex-officio Executive Director. The Board of Directors is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization. To that end, it:
- Determines how the organization will carry out its mission through long- and short- range planning.
- Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight.
- Recruits, orients, and develops other board members.
- Hires and evaluates the performance of the Executive Director.
- Evaluates its performance and overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission.
- Establishes policies for the effective management of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and promote the organization’s mission.
- Be familiar with the organization’s programs, policies, and operations.
- Be committed to medical missions.
- Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior, be a member in good standing of a LCMS congregation, and pray for LIMM and its members.
- Approves all grant applications and disperses money to those organizations.
- Agree with LIMM By-laws, statement of faith and mission statement.
- Participate in all board and committee meetings.
- Offer to take on special assignments, as needed.
- Review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings.
- Make an annual contribution to the organization commensurate with ability.
- Participate in fundraising activities and special events.
- Maintain confidentiality in regards to Board matters.
- Act corporately, have an open and encouraging attitude endeavoring to maintain the unity of Spirit in decision-making.
Time Demands (approximately):
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings (one face-to-face meeting per year lasting 6-7 hours one Saturday in March or April, and 3-4 conference call meetings per year lasting 1-2 hours).
- Attend special events, such as banquets, fund raisers, committee meetings, as needed.
- Meet with potential donors to make a case for funding the organization, answer questions, etc.
- Entertain the possibility of speaking publicly on behalf of LIMM.
